What is a snake?
A snake is a singletail whip with a replaceable fall, like bullwhip,
but without a rigid handle.
The snake whip was popular with North American cowboys,
because they could be rolled up for compact saddlebag storage.
What is the total length?
The catalog length is the approximate length of the plaited thong.
The fall and cracker adds about a foot to the total length,
so a three foot snake is actually about four feet long to the
end of the cracker. Because nylon has significant
stretch and shrink from temperature and humidity,
the length is approximated -- I tend to err on the long side;
let me know if you'd like it to be a bit shorter.
What colors are available?
There's a list of colors on the order pages for one and two color whips.
Are they real whips?
Oh, yes!
Coyote whips create the same kind of high
velocity crack as any well made leather whips.
How long does it take to get a whip?
Almost every whip I make is created for a specific order.
My typical schedule from order to shipping is usually about three weeks.
How can I pay?
My preferred payment is through PayPal.
I will also accept checks or money orders.
Email me for my mailing address.
Do you accept credit cards?
My PayPal page is set up so you can order with a credit card
without having to create your own PayPal account.
If you'd rather pay with a credit card, click the button
next to "If you do not currently have a PayPal account...".
Are all sales final?
No! If you're not happy with your whip,
I'll take it back and refund the full purchase price.
How do you ship?
For domestic US shipping, I typical send the whips by USPS Priority.
If needed, I can ship USPS Express, email me
for more information. For shipping to all other countries, I like
to use USPS Registered Air Mail, but often upgrade to Priority shipping.
The order pages have a selection that includes the extra cost for
Air Mail shipping.
Do the whips need special break-in?
You can crack the whips right out of the box.
They may seem a bit sluggish at first and tend to become more reactive with use.
Can you teach me how to crack a whip?
If it's within an hour drive of Fitchburg, Massachusetts,
I'd be happy to teach classes to groups for free or to individuals for lunch.
I like tuna salad sandwiches with little bits of celery.
Otherwise, it's just the cost of transportation and accommodation.
I'd really like to visit Tokyo, so I'll throw in a few free whips
if you can get me over there!
How do I retie the fall?
Follow the step by step photos for tying a Fall Hitch.
How do I attach a new cracker to the fall?
Use the famous Coyote Hitch.
How do I clean them?
Hand wash with soft soap and warm running water.
We don't recommend machine washing.
Hang away from direct sunlight to dry.
Can you make ...?
Maybe! If you'd like something different, drop me an email.
How long have you been making whips?
I've been making whips professionally since August 2, 2002.
Do you make whips for a living?
Yes. Even though I've made hundreds of whips, working full time,
I'm still learning more about how to make the next one a little bit better.
Do you ever wholesale whips?
My productivity is almost entirely booked for individual orders.
I've never been able to make enough extra for bulk sales.
Who buys your whips? What are they used for?
All kinds of people! Some buy them for work, some for show, some for fun.
So, thanks!
